IMPORTANT NOTES:
- There is no auto-save while editing in Omeka. We recommend clicking on the save button often.
- Refresh and check your public pages to ensure your changes are successful.
Pages form the content of your site and a site can have one or many pages. Pages are made up of blocks, each of which displays content in different ways.
To add a page and blocks to a site:
- Navigate to the Omeka S admin dashboard and select "Sites". Locate your site and click on the edit (pencil) icon.
- Under Site Admin, select "Pages" to view a list of site pages. A "Welcome" page is automatically added to a new site. You can edit this page or delete it.
- Select “Add new page”.
- Fill in the following required fields:
- Title: give the page a title. Consider formatting the title with all major words capitalized.
- URL slug: create a slug for the page. If left blank, a slug will be generated from the page title. The slug must be unique within the site and contain only letters, numbers, and hyphens; no other characters are allowed.
- Add to navigation: ensure this box is checked if you want the new page to be a menu option.
- Click on the eye icon to set the page's visibility as public or private.
- Select “Add” when you are done. This will bring you to the "Edit" view page, which displays the page's Title and URL slug fields. You can edit these fields at any time. A "Page title" block is automatically added to a new page. You can edit this block or delete it.
- From the "Add new block" options, click on a block type to add it to your page, and fill in the required fields. Remove blocks by clicking on the delete (garbage can) icon.
- Block types include (click on the hyperlinked text for descriptions): Asset, Browse preview, HTML, Item carousel, Item showcase, Item with metadata, Line break, List of pages, List of sites, Map by attachments, Map by query, Media embed, Page title, or Table of contents.
- Change the order of blocks by clicking on the three horizontal lines and dragging and dropping them to the desired location.
- Select “Save” when you are done. Refresh and check your public pages to ensure changes are successful.
