OER Completion Checklist

Before sharing an OER or publishing an open textbook, ensure that your work meets the following standards:

Clearly states that it is released under an open license or is in the public domain
- See: Copyright
You have appropriate permissions to use outside sources
- See: Find
All sources have been properly cited and attributed
- See: Remix
Provides users with an editable format e.g., Pressbooks XML, .odt, .doc or .docx
- See: Create
If applicable, you have sought other experts to provide peer-review
- See: Create

The following free services accept OERs from across disciplines and make them easily discoverable to other educators and students.

OER Commons
Use the Module Builder to upload, describe, and share OER files, or use the Resource Builder authoring tools to create a resource within the site.
MERLOT
Upload or create OER within the site. Content is shared following peer-review.

PressBooks
A self-publishing book authoring platform (free with watermarks).

Pressbooks 101
Open book teaching the basics of getting started with Pressbooks (no longer being actively maintained).

A collection of tutorial videos on using the Pressbooks online book writing and publishing software platform.
Self-Publishing Guide
A reference by BCcampus for individuals or groups wanting to write and self-publish an open textbook providing details on the preparation, planning, writing, publication, and maintenance of an open textbook.
