Limit your search to academic sites:

• site:edu - for US academic sites
• site:edu.au for academic Australian sites
• site:ac.uk for UK academic sites

Limit your search to a particular fietype:

• filetyp:pdf
• filetype:ppt
• filetype:doc

For example, the search:

site:edu  filetype:pdf

"journalism ethics"

will locate pdf documents, from US academic sites, containing the phrase "journalism ethics"
