Use AND to connect different ideas or concepts:

Use OR to connect terms that describe the same concept:

Why use Background Sources?

Resources like encyclopedias, dictionaries and handbooks can provide you with background information on a topic.

Use them to help you define your topic for an assignment or to gain a better understanding of concepts discussed in your lecture or lab.
