NOTE: With the move to online classes, we have been seeing an increase in questions about how to cite readings accessed via Blackboard! Based on the MLA's post about citing materials uploaded to a course website and the 8th edition's direction to include original publication information wherever appropriate for a source (see page 53), we recommend that these materials be referenced as follows:
If Original Publication Information is Included
Author. "Title," Blackboard, uploaded by Professor Name, upload date or semester, learn.macewan.ca. Originally published in Source Title, vol. #, no. #, year, pp. #-#. Accessed day mon. year.
Example:
Smith, Janet. "A Ray of Sunshine," Blackboard, uploaded by Margaret McDonald, Winter 2021, learn.macewan.ca. Originally published in Canadian Literature Quarterly, vol. 23, no. 2, 2016, pp. 9-18. Accessed 2 Feb. 2021.
If Original Publication Information is Not Included
Author. "Title," Blackboard, uploaded by Professor Name, upload date or semester, learn.macewan.ca. Accessed day mon. year.
Example:
Smith, Janet. "A Ray of Sunshine," Blackboard, uploaded by Margaret McDonald, Winter 2021, learn.macewan.ca. Accessed 2 Feb. 2021.
